Mr. Muhammed Abdus Salam, founder and the President of Bangladesh Organic Products Manufacturers Association (BOPMA) has been trying to establish “Organics” in Bangladesh since 2002 and finally the Caretaker Govt. regulated Organic Fertilizer act in 2008. Therefore, BOPMA is pushing the Govt. enabling and implementing the National Organic Policy. BOPMA’s main goal is to save the nation from Poverty, Hunger, Malnutrition and from Diseases as well as to save public health, soil health, fisheries and environment through the following objectives – 1. To bring back the soil health as it was natural in the beginning. The BOPMA is urging the farmers keeping a certain portion of their crop plants onto the soil during the harvesting time. The BOPMA is also requesting the farmers cultivating different crops in different seasons on their soil throughout the country. As a result the soils will get different nutrients from different crops and it will be healthier naturally gradually. 2. To establish an Organic Fertilizer factory at every Upajila meeting up the total demands of fertilizer throughout the country. Organic Fertilizer supplements to chemical fertilizers and better than chemical fertilizers which was proved by the Ministry of Agriculture. On the other hand Organic Fertilizer reduces the usage of pesticides up-to 80% We can save total subsidy from fertilizer section easily. (pictures available) 3. To establish 20 units of Herbal Pesticides industries throughout the country meeting up the total demands of pesticides and insecticides. Neem, Mehagani etc. will be used as raw materials producing herbal pesticides and insecticides those must supplement of chemical pesticides and insecticides. This initiative will stop importation of chemical and toxic pesticides and will save millions of foreign currencies. (pictures available) 4. To establish and to familiar the Soybean, various Soy foods a best source of plant protein (46%) Only Soybean alone can remove poverty, hunger, severe diseases and malnutrition from Bangladesh easily. Soybean supplements easily to meat, fish, egg, milk etc. 50 units of soybean based industries can be established throughout the country where to be produced Soybean oil, Soy Nuggets, Soy Milk, Soy Flour, Soy Fry, Soy instant foods, Soy Tofu etc. 5. Soybean can easily strengthen food security in Bangladesh. It must be replaced of destructive Tobacco and other hazardous, voracious crops. Maize and Tobacco certainly are voracious crops those uptake more nutrients from soil. On the other hand, nicotine of tobacco causes cancer, T.B and other severe diseases, those are killing thousands of lives every year. Millions of taka are being spent in treatment purpose caused by tobacco. The important point is that tobacco is the entrance and first step of the destructive Drug. The BOPMA is trying to convert all tobacco based industries into Soybean based industries throughout the country to save the nation. 6. Soybean can be cultivated on fallow, loamy, harsh, infertile lands, char lands, high lands, coastal areas. Soybean develops soil structures, soil health within 3 years because it takes nitrogen from the air and supplies nitrogen to the soil. So, thousands of hectares of infertile lands will become fertile through Soybean cultivation. The BOPMA is trying to develop Soybean cultivation throughout the country. 7. The BOPMA is working to diversify the food habits of the nation. For example – (1) Soybean supplements to meat, egg, fish and milk. (2) Yam, potato, maize, vegetables etc supplement to rice and wheat. (3) Indigenous fruits supplement and better than imported fruits. On the other hand all the imported fruits contents very harmful and hazardous preservatives those kill the people through slow poisoning. 8. The BOPMA is convincing and teaching the farmers to prepare compost fertilizer at their home yard using their own cow-dung, kitchen wastage, food wastage, vegetable wastage etc. They can meet up their own demands of fertilizer through their own composting plants. 9. Some national and multinational companies pour 50000 mt of harmful and hazardous pesticides every year in this small country. We are losing millions of foreign currencies in importing these pesticides and insecticides, on the other hand these huge quantity of pesticides are killing us, our fisheries, our environment etc. through slow poisoning. The BOPMA is working to control pesticides, insecticides through Integrated Pastes Management system (IPM) and are being taught and convinced this system to the farmers throughout the country accordingly. 10.The BOPMA is working to discourage the nation to par-boiled rice. The nation has been using par-boiled rice for nothing. Non boiled rice is better and more nutritious than par-boiled rice. Thousands of mt of fuels have been being destroyed for boiling and for drying rice and polluting our environment. On the other hand thousands of workers are being involved in this sector. 11. The BOPMA is pioneering Jatropha plantation on the road sides, rail-way sides, fallow, loamy, harsh, infertile lands, char lands, high lands, coastal areas and on hilly areas throughout the country aiming to produce Bio-diesel and balanced fertilizer. BOPMA is working to bring 200000 hectares of fallow lands under Jatropha plantation by 2015 aiming to produce 600000 mt of Bio-diesel and 1400000 mt of Organic fertilizer from Jatropha seeds. 12. The BOPMA is contributing to control Global Warming and Climate Change through Jatropha plantation and Biodiesel production. Because – A) Infertile, loamy, harsh and fallow lands are suitable for Jatropha cultivation B) 3000 plants can be planted in one hectare of land and yielding will be 6 – 10 MT C) A Jatropha plant absorbs 8 kgs CO2 & reduce Global Warming D) It is to prune so its branches and leaves are being composted for quality Organic Fertilizer E) Its seeds contents 37% oil which can be combusted as fuel without being refined. It burns with clear smoke-free flame, tested successfully as fuel in simple diesel engine. F) The by-products are press cake a good and balanced Organic Fertilizer. It Contents about 5% N, 2.5% P, 2% K including other nutritions. It also acts as Pesticide. G) It controls Erosion and increase soil quality H) It contributes to rural women promotion I) It contributes to Rural income generation and poverty reduction J) It produces Renewable Energy (Biodiesel) which emits 80% less CO2 than fossil diesel K) It saves millions of foreign currencies avoiding importation of fossil diesel 13. The BOPMA has set-up its own laboratory at 20 destinations throughout the country. Any Organic Food Manufacturer, Organic Farmer, Organic products Processor, Organic vegetables Processor can conduct Laboratory Testing on his / her products at the BOPMA Laboratory. The farmers and the stakeholders can achieve their Soil Test report and Organic Certification from BOPMA. 14. The BOPMA expects removing Poverty, Hunger, Malnutrition, Diseases, unemployment etc. from Bangladesh through Jatropha plantation and Soybean cultivation throughout the country by 2015. 15. BOPMA is working to convince the brick field owners stopping their Brick Fields. Because, the brick fields have been destroying our lands and top soil, forests, coal, environment etc. To be guided the brick field owners for hollow blocks using the lot of sands of our rivers. 16. The BOPMA has its own storage facilities where the own ethnic varieties of crops are being stored. The association is trying to re-establish our own ethnic varieties throughout the country.
